Zephyrhills Woman Sentenced to 15 Years for Deadly '07 Crash

DADE CITY – A Zephyrhills woman has been sentenced to prison for a crash that killed two people in 2007. The woman, 57, of Artifact Drive, pleaded no contest to two counts of driving under the influence-manslaughter and other charges and was sentenced in December to 15 years in prison. Her driver's license also was revoked for life as part of her sentence. Smith was driving her 1999 Ford Explorer west on State Road 54 on Dec. 6, 2007, when she failed to brake behind a 2005 Chrysler minivan that was stopped in traffic. The minivan's driver was not injured but four passengers in the vehicle were hurt. Two of them died in the days following the crash. The suspect's blood-alcohol level was 0.245 percent, which is more than three times the level at which the state presumes a driver intoxicated. She was arrested in May 2008. Source
