First Year Law School Success: The Ultimate and Essential Guide for Every 1L, now in its 4th edition is what it claims to be.  Topics covered are reading and briefing cases efficiently and effectively, good note taking, creating dynamic course outlines, writing outstanding exam essays, and avoiding law school traps. The author, Ira L. Shafiroff is a professor of law at Southwestern Law School where he has been teaching since 1982. He teaches Property and, for many years, Selected Topics in American Law, a course he designed to prepare students for the California bar exam, emphasizing bar essay exam writing and multiple choice testing.  He was a longtime lecturer for BARBRI Bar Review, where he created and taught California BARBRI’s first essay writing course for its general bar review program.   Subsequently he created an essay writing course for first-year law school students.
