In the summer of 1955 Marilyn Monroe starred in a critically acclaimed Billy Wilder movie called "The Seven Year Itch". The story was about a husband on his own for the summer who meets his new neighbour, a blonde bombshell who moves into the apartment next to him. The plot of the story is "when the mice are away, the cat will play". You may recall the infamous scene when 29 year-old Marilyn stands over a subway grating where her white skirt billows up around her waist revealing great legs and white panties. It was Marilyn at her best. Today, however, the alleged phenomenon that spouses start to think about straying at the seven-year mark has been dispelled by international accounting firm Grant Thornton's Forensic and Investigative Practice who surveyed ninety of the leading family lawyers in Great Britain to determine whether the "seven-year itch" still existed. Seventy-five percent of those surveyed agreed that marriages are surviving longer than they once did. The seven-year itch has been replaced with the eleven-year itch. The survey also showed that pre-nuptial agreements were being sought by many more couples and when asked which gender typically attempts to hide assets, 83% said "men", while only 2% answered "women. Grant Thornton conducts their matrimonial research on an annual basis to identify trends in family law. British pro golfer Nick Faldo shared this insight about "itches": "We were happily married for eight months. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted four years."
