Red Light Running is the Most Common Cause of Serious Urban Car Accidents

In 2014, 32,675 people were killed in traffic accidents in the United States. Over 8,000 of those fatal accidents occured at intersections.  Most busy intersections are equipped with some type of traffic signal.  Some intersections have flashing caution lights, while others have full fledged 3 signal stoplights. Human error is always a factor and for various resaons people run red lights.  Sometimes, drivers are distracted by cell phones, texting, other people in the car, or their own thoughts and simply do not notice they have approached the intersection.  Other people are simply in a hurry or do not want to wait for the light. Some drivers may also be driving under the influence (DUI) and do not react to the red light.  Whatever the reason, red light running is especially dangerous.
