Primary Custody in South Carolina

Primary custody is an arrangement where one parent has physical custody of the child the majority of the time. The other parent gets some sort of visitation rights, which can be negotiated by the parties or decided by family court. Primary custody is practical in many situations. It has aspects of both sole custody and joint custody, and can be a good compromise between the two. Primary Custody vs. Sole Custody Giving one parent sole custody can limit the other parent’s ability to see their child. Primary custody allows the other parent to see the child on weekends, vacations, or whenever it is convenient or practicable. Both parents get a chance to care for their child.
