LPS Fellow is awarded the Powell Fellowship

The University of Virginia School of Law has just announced that Maya Iyyani ’18, a current fellow and the student co-president of the Program in Law and Public Service, is this year’s recipient of the Powell Fellowship. She will be working with Bay Area Legal Aid to address the rampant housing crisis in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Powell Fellowship is one of the post-graduation opportunities awarded by the law school to support recent graduates pursuing careers in public service. Named in honor of Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., the Powell Fellowship grants $45,000 to one student who will be working to provide legal services to indigent clients. Fellows will work under the sponsorship of a host public interest organization on a year-long project.
