Let Us Eat Lettuce? Perhaps Not Romaine.

By: Heather Williams Two countries are facing a serious outbreak of E. coli that seems to be linked with romaine lettuce.  In fact, Canadian investigations have linked the outbreak with the leafy green culprit, but have not narrowed down the source enough to initiate a recall.  What that means, is that they know the vehicle. They just don’t know the exact make and model. Canadian authorities have suggested that those in the affected provinces perhaps choose a different kind of lettuce and some businesses and grocery chains are erring on the side of caution and removing it from the shelves and menus.  But here in the United States, despite the urging of certain consumer groups, nothing is being said to influence American consumers lettuce buying decisions at this time.
