Dancer loses both legs after boat explosion in the Bahamas

By: Julia Braham CHICAGO (July 3, 2018) – A 22-year-old dancer had to have both of her legs amputated after the tour boat she was on exploded in the Bahamas. Stephanie Schaffer, who has been a dancer her whole life, was vacationing with her family in the islands when the tour boat they were on caught fire and exploded Monday.  Twelve people were on the boat when it suddenly exploded just after 9 A.M., off the coast of Exuma. Two locals and ten Americans were on board. One woman celebrating her fifteenth wedding anniversary was killed during the explosion. As of Wednesday, Schaffer remained in critical condition in a medially induced coma. Doctors say she will need surgery on her fractured spine and will likely never dance again.
