By order in council published in the December 9 Ontario Gazette, the government has proclaimed that the major changes to the Planning Act contained in Bill 51 will come into force on January 1, 2007.
The regulations implementing many of the changes were filed on December 13, and will be posted on the internet hopefully on December 15.
A key regulation is 548/06, which contains the transition provisions. Essentially, all private applications filed prior to January 1, 2007, will continue to proceed under the Planning Act as it read pre- Bill 51.
