Barge Stuck at Mississippi River Bridge

VICKSBURG, MS – Last Wednesday, March 23, 2011, a river barge became lodged against the Mississippi bridge in Vicksburg, MS causing a salvage operation to be conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard. Mississippi River barge accident March 23, 2011. The barge became almost completely submerged after colliding against one of the bridge supports. WATCH VIDEO A team of Coast Guard, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Army Corps of Engineer officials were working out another plan to remove the barge. They will attempt it sometime Friday. Meanwhile boat operators like Captain Sanderson said the rushing current was keeping them all on guard.
