Archbishop of New York Warns Obama of Consequences of DOMA Repeal

Timothy Dolan, Catholic Archbishop of New York, wrote a strong letter to President Obama. He stated that "recent actions" taken by the Administration "escalate the threat to marriage." He then urged the President to perpetuate the discriminate against gay and lesbian Americans by supporting the "Defense Of Marriage Act." "Mr. President," wrote the Archbishop, "I respectfully urge you to push the reset button on your Administration‟s approach to DOMA. Our federal government should not be presuming ill intent or moral blindness on the part of the overwhelming majority of its citizens, millions of whom have gone to the polls to directly support DOMAs in their states and have thereby endorsed marriage as the union of man and woman."
