Almost 10,000 Lawsuits Filed Against Johnson & Johnson

Ovarian cancer is a disease affecting thousands of newly diagnosed women each year, to the tune of 22,240 expected diagnoses of this disease this year along. Only 20% of these cases will be caught at an early stage and the disease is expected to claim 14,070 lives. Many women believe that a cause of their cancer is their use of baby powder, sprinkled in their underwear or dusted in their pelvic region for freshness. The talc in the powder has been linked to the cancer and several women have sued Johnson & Johnson as the Post and Courier reports. Almost 10,000 lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson, many of them filed in New Jersey where the company headquarters is located, claim a link between the baby powder and ovarian cancer diagnoses. Juries have agreed with the women on whose behalf these lawsuits have been filed. The first was awarded a $72 million-dollar verdict. Another $55 million-dollar verdict followed.
