A court's standards of review of decisions that are the product of compulsory arbitration differ from its standard of review of decisions resulting from voluntary arbitration procedures

The standard of review mandated by CPLR Article 75 provides that an arbitration award may be vacated only on a showing of misconduct, bias, the exceeding of power, or procedural defects as set out in CPLR §7511(b)1 and where the arbitration is compulsory, judicial scrutiny is stricter than accorded a determination resulting from participation in a voluntary arbitration proceeding….
