Worker subcontracting to Washington State Ferry System has Jones Act protection-11

Washington State Ferries has from time to time contracted with land based firms to provide concessions on board its vessels. It appears that Velma Hayes endured both physical and mental pain as a result of work in the concession area of the M/V Wenatchee. Ms. Hayes also suffers from loss of wages as a result of her injuries. Her employer's base of operation notwithstanding, Ms. Hayes is protected by the Jones Act in exactly the same way as seamen hired directly by the State of Washington to run its vessels.
