Two Illinois State Police Troopers struck and killed in car accidents in 3-day span

FREEPORT, Ill. (April 2, 2019) –  Two on-duty Illinois State Police troopers were killed in car accidents last week. On Thursday, 34-year-old Trooper Brooke Jones-Story pulled a truck over around 12:20 p.m. and was conducting an inspection on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 20 in Freeport when another semi-truck plowed into her, her squad car and the stopped truck. Jones-Story was killed in the crash. The driver of the truck that caused the fatal crash was cited with a violation of Scott’s Law, which requires motorists to slow down and change lanes if possible when approaching stopped emergency vehicles. He also was charged with improper lane usage.
