Well it really is pretty well finished. Although we haven't had a frost yet (frost threatened a couple of weeks ago, but the temps have settled down to warmer than normal again), we have effectively reached the end of our growing season. The trees are late, but are finally beginning to turn and the dreaded task of raking and raking and raking some more is just around the corner. There are few outdoor tasks I despise more than raking – no matter how many times it's done, the next morning the lawn and garden are full of leaves again. The variegated milkweed is going strong. I'll need to cut these back before they set seed, or I'll have a yard full of them. This is a cropped portion of the dinnerplate mallow pic I posted last week. I kept looking at the pistils and realized that they reminded me of some kind of futuristic alien landing pods. I wanted to show them up closer – something about them made me smile.
