Thematic Focus: U.S. Family Separation Round-up

News:On 26 June 2018, a federal judge issued a ruling that effectively put an end to family separations at the border and required families to be reunified. Specifically, the order states: "Unless there is a determination that the parent is unfit or presents a danger to the child, or the parent affirmatively, knowingly, and voluntarily declines to be reunited with the child: (a) Defendants must reunify all Class Members with their minor children who are under the age of five (5) within fourteen (14) days of the entry of this Order; and (b) Defendants must reunify all Class Members with their minor children age five (5) and over within thirty (30) days of the entry of this Order."The judge also noted that the personal property of detainees is tracked more efficiently and effectively by the government than their children are.Advocacy:Nationwide Protests against Trump’s Family Separation Policy Planned for June 30 (Vox, June 2018) [text]- Locate an event via…
