The Marriage Equality Act and New York State Taxes Source: New York State Department of Taxation and Finance A document explaining the tax implications of New York's Marriage Equality Act has been posted on the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance's Web site at http://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/memos/multitax/m11_8c_8i_7m_1mctmt_1r_12s.pdf The document explains that all marriages, whether of same-sex couples or different-sex couples, will be treated equally under all laws of the state. Accordingly, the Act applies to all taxes administered by the Tax Department as of the effective date of July 24, 2011.
