The End of D&G

There have been rumors about the close of D&G for months. But now, the rumors have been confirmed. D&G, the younger brand of Dolce and Gabbana, is shutting down. The announcement came at the brand's last show, Thursday, September 22, in Milan. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the designers of the brand, have said that closing D&G will give them the opportunity to give "even more strength and energy to our collection." D&G started out as the sportier, edgier and more affordable line. However, consumers had trouble distinguishing it from the signature line, Dolce&Gabbana, since the aesthetics are similar. In recent years, the price point of D&G has increased too, making it even more difficult to differentiate between the two. We are sad to see D&G go, but there is hope that the spirit of D&G will be injected into Dolce&Gabbana. Gabbana has said that this idea of focusing on their signature line has been in works for the past 2 years. They believe this is essential for the brand to be in the market a long time and to reach a wider range of customers with a more extensive product range. The large collection may even include some more affordable items. They have already started to incorporate a fine jewelry line to strengthen and expand their brand, which will launch this weekend. The pieces are all gold and take on a vintage feel. The line will be available in Dolce and Gabbana boutiques starting November.
