The Duke Case: Unleash the Hounds!

I got blasted last year by my beloved commenters for having the temerity to suggest that we all should wait for the Duke lacrosse case to unfold in real time before we made any judgments about the strength of the evidence or the motives and tactics of Durham County District Attorney Michael Nifong. Well, that time has come– “insufficient evidence” said North Carolinas attorney general, the students are “truly innocent”– and Nifongs many critics were absolutely correct. Whether or not you agree that the students are “truly innocent” the fact is that there really was no there there in the sexual assault case against the young men. And now Nifong is left to answer, in court and in the court of public opinion, for his dubious conduct throughout his ill-fated attempt to win convictions agianst the defendants. Nifong has to answer for why he did not interview the alleged victim
