The ABC’s of Virginia’s New Confectionery Law

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority (ABC) is a major source of revenue. More than $2.1 billion has been added to the general fund in the last five years. Virginia ABC currently operates 376 state stores and provides alcohol education and prevention programs for people of all ages. Its Bureau of Law Enforcement oversees more than 18,000 ABC licensed establishments. New Virginia ABC License Category As of July 1, 2018, Virginia makes it easier to eat, not just drink, your favorite adult beverages through the creation of a new “confectionery” license. Virginia’s new legislation adds a “confectionery license” to the permitted categories of Alcohol Beverage Control (“ABC”) licensing under Virginia Code section 4.1-206.
