Students Injured By Drunk Bus Driver

  In most states, a simple DUI is charged as a misdemeanor. This can change if certain conditions are met, such as injuring or killing others. Charges can also be increased if there are minor children involved or if the driver is driving public transportation such as a bus. Jail time is not always guaranteed but many states have a mandatory period where a person’s license will be suspended. The Atlanta Journal and Constitution reports on a Georgia bus driver facing DUI charges after an accident injured students headed to a basketball championship. The West Georgia Technical College’s women’s basketball team was headed to the NJCAA Division III Championship at the time of the crash. All 13 women aboard the bus received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital to be checked out. The driver, 59-year-old Willie Frank Walker of Carrollton was arrested. He is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs and marijuana possession. He remains…
