by P.J. Blount with the blog faculty Source – SpaceLawyers.org: 2nd Annual 'Spaceflight Lawyers Roundtable' set for ISDC 2011 Posted on January 5, 2011 by Doug Griffith Hello Fellow Spaceflight Lawyers, I am pleased to announce that a 2nd Annual Spaceflight Lawyers Roundtable will be venued at this year's International Space Development Conference (ISDC), set for May 18-22, 2011 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This event will build upon the ideas that were discussed at our first roundtable held at the Space Frontier Foundation's NewSpace 2010 conference in Silicon Valley this past July, and will be the place for the introduction of any new ideas anyone wants to bring to the table in furtherance of the official description of the event: "Attorneys and interested attendees exchanging ideas about what newspace-inclined practitioners can be doing, as a group, to ensure that a system is in place for the optimized delivery of legal services to members of the commercial human spaceflight industry." Confirming details will be forthcoming, including the specific date upon which the roundtable will be put on the agenda, but in the meantime I wanted to let everyone know to mark their calendar and make plans to attend if at all possible. ISDC is a terrific conference for the newspace industry, and an excellent venue for our efforts to prepare the legal community to meet that industry's needs. Please let me know if, at this point, you think you will likely attend. In the meantime, I want to thank Berin Szoka for setting up the "SpaceLawyers" Google Group (description: "Lawyers involved in the advancement of the commercial space industry"). If you have not been invited to join, please let Berin know (firstname.lastname@example.org). Thanks also to Berin for setting up this group blog. I also want to thank JPL's Jeff Nosanov for putting up an excellent space law networking site, www.laworbit.com. Please visit the site, create an account, and start adding content! Finally, for those of you who have specific ideas that lend themselves toward further development through our group, please pipe in with any suggestions about how the group can help turn those ideas into reality. Specifically, I am thinking of Michael Leventhal's industry-targeted legal guide, and Jack Kennedy's CLE program. However, anyone else with an idea for a "product" that they think will advance the providing of legal services to the commercial space industry, and which they think will benefit from incubation and pushing along through our group, should feel free to send something out. Happy New Year, and I'll hope to see as many of you as possible at ISDC in May. Best regards, Doug
