It's been a fun week here in NY. First we feel about a 2.2 level earthquake (actually I didn't feel it but it seems like everyone else did) that scares the bejesus out of a whole bunch of folks not far from Ground Zero just a few weeks before 9/11. Now we have a seriously scary hurricane, with the sweet grandmotherly name Irene, headed right for my house on Long Island it seems. Crazy weather hurts small business. Larger companies have more ability to "weather" changes in business resulting from storms and the like. But a quake or tornado or hurricane can literally wipe out a small company. If a warehouse is destroyed, it may be insured but by the time you're up and running again your customers could be gone. Let's hope we say "Goodnight Irene" quickly and with little damage to our world.
