Lower Manhattan Chain Reaction Crash Fatally Injures Driver

One person has been killed in a six-car chain reaction accident that occurred the morning of Dec. 29. According to a CBS New York news report, the incident occurred in TriBeCa where police say a 37-year-old man driving a sedan westbound on the West Side Highway lost control and crashed into an SUV near Hubert Street. The impact of the collision caused the SUV to overturn and catch fire, police said. Driver Arrested and Charged Investigators say the man continued to drive on and hit a pickup truck, which in turn collided with a sedan. He came to a stop finally, but only after he struck two other vehicles. The driver who caused the initial collision attempted to flee the scene with his dog, but was apprehended shortly thereafter. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
