As any Van Nuys criminal defense lawyers can tell you, drug-related crimes are very serious in nature since the majority of them are classified as felony criminal offenses instead of misdemeanors. Drug-related crimes can vary widely from possession to selling, manufacturing, distribution or trafficking. Some crimes, such as possession of marijuana or being under the influence of certain drugs, can be classified as misdemeanor criminal offenses, which tend to have less dire consequences. A felony drug conviction, however, can land you in a Los Angeles County jail, or even a California State prison. An experienced Van Nuys criminal defense attorney can tell you that for many misdemeanor drug offenses, deferred entry of judgment can help you avoid jail time and can keep your criminal record clean. Felony drug offenses, however, will go on your permanent criminal record, and any Van Nuys criminal defense attorney knows that a criminal record can haunt and hinder your life for quite awhile. Aside from extensive potential jail time, being convicted of a felony drug offense may find you stripped of personal property such as a car if it is somehow related to your drug arrest. Having multiple prior convictions can also land you in jail for longer and longer periods of time. If you have been arrested for or charged with a drug-related crime, call the Van Nuys criminal defense attorneys at Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin, LLP right away to defend you.
