Document: Manafort Defense Team Files Sentencing Memo

Paul Manafort's defense team has filed a sentencing memorandum in U.S. v. Paul J. Manafort, Jr, the case tried in the Eastern District of Virginia in summer 2018. Manafort was convicted on eight charges related to fraudulent financial dealings. His lawyers argue that, "Mr. Manafort has been personally and financially punished as a result of his illegal conduct and there is no reason to believe that a sentence of many years in prison is necessary to prevent him from committing further crimes," and that Manafort "poses no future risk to the public of reoffending and specific deterrence for a soon-to-be septuagenarian is not necessary under these circumstances."
