Copyright Round Up Part 2!

Previously, I wrote a post on interesting copyright and trademark infringements I had send over a span of a few months. This time, I thought I would give a quick recap of the past few weeks. I found two infringements of note. First, Proenza Schouler. Their new bag became an instant favorite. Unfortunately, their PS1 brand is a constant source of copyright infringement by labels such as Gap and Zara. Target's low-price label (interestingly enough, Mossimo did not start out as a low-budget brand) has now taken on the PS1 bag. One of PS1's designers, Jack McCollough, received an email from his sister with a picture of the bag from her local target. So much for hiring interns and fashion lawyers… This particular infringement is of note because Proena Schouler has worked with Target before as one of their international designers. Chief Executive Officer Shirley Cook stated ""So our product is in Target right now, and then this bag comes out," chief exec Shirley Cook told the Times. "It's just disappointing, especially from someone we worked with." The Target bag retails at $34.99 and the looks are strikingly similar, which begs the point that all infringements do: why not just buy the knock off? I also found this Prada creeper and its copycat by YesStyle. The weird thing is YesStyle is still selling theirs for $100 – what's the point?!
