Colorado End-of-Life Options Act – 125 Prescriptions in 2018

In 2016, Colorado voters approved Proposition 106, which enacted the Colorado End-of-Life Options Act. This Act allows an eligible terminally-ill individual with a prognosis of six months or less to live to request and self-administer medical aid-in-dying medication in order to voluntarily end his or her life. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has published its second annual statistical report, describing Colorado’s participation in End-of-Life Options activities. In 2018, 125 patients received prescriptions.  While the reported data is not as complete as the Oregon and Washington reports, the reported data is in accord with what those reports have shown for decades. For example of the patients who got prescriptions:90% were under hospice care 94% were white 73% went to college 65% had cancer
