California’s Plan To Tax Texts Is Regulation Run Amok

California regulators have proposed a new text messaging tax that would increase the phone bills of millions of California residents who have a texting plan.  This new tax is a stupid idea that I hope doesn’t spread across the country to other states, in particular, to my home state of Maryland.  Cell pone bills are already high enough and filled with so many bullsh%t fees and taxes that I want to scream every month when I look at my bill. While California’s new attempt to try to tax text messages may run afoul of federal law, the fact that regulators are attempting to tax texts demonstrates they want to figure out how to further pinch out pockets in the Digital Age. In general, many regulators and lawmakers don’t understand the Digital Economy and this new Tex Message Tax only reinforces this fact.  I hope California regulators come to their senses and drop this text tax proposal because the last thing I want to see on my bill is a new…
