A set of charges to conduct business license checks on certain types of companies has been approved by authorities in Tulare County in California's Central Valley. The county board of supervisors gave a green light for the implementation of fees for adult-oriented businesses and medical-marijuana collectives earlier in the week, reports the Visalia Times-Delta. Supervisors unanimously approved the move, which will enable the sheriff's department to carry out background checks on applicants for business licenses related to the aforementioned businesses. However, some of those affected have questioned whether the county has the right to charge the fees, which will run $95 per hour, in addition to a $100-an-hour fee for the county Resource Management Agency. "What the county's doing is trying to lump medical marijuana in with adult services. Medical marijuana has one purpose and one purpose alone: to take care of illness," attorney Bill Romaine told the publication.
