An oil worker on the Deepwater Horizon has made a startling revelation – weeks before the BP rig explosion, the company was made aware of a potential leak in the emergency safety system. The worker Tyrone Benton, has spoken to the media about his discovery of the leak in one of the two control pods of the blowout preventer. Benton reported the matter to BP, and the rig's owner Transocean. However, neither company took immediate steps to repair this problem. The answer to why the companies involved failed to take action immediately seems to lie in the fact that the blowout preventer would have to be brought back to the surface to repair it. That meant that production would have to be immediately stopped. BP insisted that Transocean, as the owner of the rig, was responsible for the repair operations, while Transocean insisted that the device has been tested successfully before the explosion. Several of the workers were on the Deepwater Horizon have shared details about their concerns for safety in the weeks leading up to the explosion. It's clear that things were not going as normal on the rig. There was definitely pressure on the workers to speed up processes and work faster. They were already behind schedule, and higher-ups were increasing pressure to complete the work of sealing the well, so that a production rig could be brought in.
